About the Artist

Rafael Acosta was born in Havana, Cuba in 1988. He trained at the prestigious Academia Nacional de Bellas Artes San Alejandro (2004–2008) and later earned a degree in Fine Arts with a specialization in Restoration and Conservation from the Universidad de las Artes de La Habana (2010–2016).

His work is rooted in the Romantic and Symbolist traditions, with a hedonistic approach to beauty and a deep philosophical inquiry into karma, emotion, and the pursuit of happiness. He has collaborated with some of the world's most important cultural institutions, including the Museo Nacional del Prado, the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, and the Museo Reina Sofía.

After years as a master restorer in Cuba and Italy, Acosta arrived in Panama in late 2024, where he has quickly made his mark — exhibiting at Casa Casco in Panama City's Historic District and earning 2nd place at the prestigious Banconal Art Competition 2025 in the emerging artists painting category. He currently resides and creates in Panama.
